Jackie Leftwich of Waterside Chiropractic is delighted to announce that she has been selected to teach on the McTimoney MSc Animal Manipulation Course as a Practical Tutor. This involves attending days teaching students the practical skills required to become a qualified practitioner, able to treat horses, dogs and other animals with the technique that she herself uses on animals.
Validated by the University of Wales, the MSc Animal Manipulation programme is currently unique in the world, in that it is the only externally validated Masters level programme that trains students in Animal Manipulation. The programme is designed either for students who already have training in a hands-on therapy (this may include a trained chiropractor, physiotherapist, osteopath or any other fully qualified and suitably experienced practitioner), for those with a BSc degree in Equine or Animal Science or for those who are a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
The overall aim of the programme is to offer sound teaching in the theory and practice of animal manipulation, with particular emphasis on the McTimoney technique. It aims to produce safe, competent and reflective practitioners as well as encouraging opportunities for research and further postgraduate studies. The programme is taught over two years, and leads to the award of a MSc Animal Manipulation. The academic year begins in January of each year, and the annual intake is limited.
It was Jackie’s first day tutoring yesterday. Jackie said “my first day tutoring on the MSc Animal Manipulation was a great experience, despite the fact that it was a blisteringly cold day. The sudden snowfall made it a difficult journey to and from Sussex to the venue near Wantage in Oxfordshire, but it was well worth it. The students were really keen to learn and worked really well with the horses, even though we were all exposed to the cold and biting wind for the entire day. It was a pleasure to be involved with working with the next generation of animal chiropractors and animal manipulators, helping them learn the practical skills required to become competent practitioners.”
